On
February 2, 2008, 13 volunteers from the
Santa Rosa Rotary club joined forces
with San Juan Rio Relief in a 4 day
Optical and Dental Mission in the town
of Buena Vista.
The
Optical Group examined 605 patients.
The examination included testing
with an auto refractor, distance charts
and up close material, then being fitted
with the correct prescription and being
retested.
Some patients were given 2
glasses, one for distance and one for
close work.
A total of 650 eye glasses and
220 sun glasses were given to the
people.
The
Optical team was headed by John Jones
and volunteers were:
Elise Castro, Daniel Castro,
Steve Herron, Steve Zwick, Vicki Lockner
and Patricia Killeen
The
Dental Group saw 80 adult patients with
severe problems. The examination
included x-rays using a field x-ray
unit. They preformed 243 extractions and
20 fillings.
14 extractions were medically
necessary on one young woman and 13 on
another.
All Dentists were in agreement
about the urgent need for dental care.
The
dental team was headed by Ezbon Zen
volunteers were: Steve Amend, Kelly
Waggener DDS, Jason Lehman DDS, Richard
Sellman DDS and Steve Davis DDS.
